THE HISTORY OF LHF | SOUTH AFRICA
David Götting
The idea of doing a festival in South Africa was born under very banal, almost trite circumstances. While LHF crew members were on vacation in beautiful Cape Town, they happened to drive by one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world, just 40 minutes outside the city.

From there, it was not too difficult to connect the dots. Cape Town attracts tourists from all over the world especially during high season from December to February and has a vibrant and diverse nightlife scene. Electronic arts festivals and clubs have sprung up all over the city and it is not just a small scene but a respectable and influential industry. The tide of popularity in Cape Town has grown from live music to new styles like amapiano and electronic (techno) with projects and ideas that energize the scene in a different way. The perfect biotope for us.
Connected in spirit with the local electronic music scene, the festival in 2024 will be the sixth time and we are honoured to have so many good friends in South Africa. They helped us to set up a second leg in Johannesburg in 2020 and 2023.
LHF has become an integral part of the local festival calendar in Cape Town, and we are shaping the project according to our "cultural exchange" philosophy, booking South African artists as an integral part of our flagship event in Croatia. Since years we have been supporting a very successful local gardening project (ikhayagarden.wixsite.com) with the help of our guests – thank you kind human beings!
